Honoring Our Ancestors

West Farms
Memorial Gardens

At Beck Memorial Presbyterian Church

A garden and community center on the site of the
WF Enslaved Persons Burial Ground

About The Project

Behind Beck Memorial Presbyterian Church lies one of New York’s most significant yet overlooked historic sites—burial grounds that hold enslaved Africans, Native Americans, early settlers, and veterans from four wars. We are working to preserve this sacred land as West Farms Memorial Gardens, a public space for remembrance, learning, and community.

The Gardens will honor those buried here with historic markers, offer educational and cultural programs, protect the natural landscape, and provide a place for quiet reflection. Together, we can safeguard this history and ensure its legacy for future generations.
